The large, multi pole, tents which we use for hire are constructed with two main components; the poles and the canvas. The canvas is made of a high grade cotton / synthetic fibre mix, which makes it naturally flame retardant. This means that the protection is retained even after prolonged use. It also negates the use of harmful bromine hydrocarbons.
The poles are made from the Trunks of Spruce trees, grown over a period of 100 years and very difficult to burn. Their age also makes them very strong and flexible.
There are two exits on opposite sides of each tent, which can be used as emergency exits. When multiple Kåtas are joined together provision is made to make sure these exits are useable. It is the client responsibility to make sure that the emergency exits are not obstructed at any time.
The Kåtas are designed to accommodate and open fire, but only using one of our specially designed Bamse [link] fireplaces. During a period of hire we do not permit a fire to be lit in the Kåta using anything but the fireplace we supply. A fire extinguisher should be at hand, next to the fireplace.
We can provide oil fueled lanterns for use inside the Kåtas. These are mounted on special brackets, preventing contact with the poles or canvas. Re-fuelling these lanterns is not permitted at any time during the period of hire, unless done so by authorized personnel.
Each Kåta requires a level pitch 14 meters in diameter, free from overhead trees, power lines and other obstructions. The ground must allow for metal stakes to be driven in, in order to provide a safe and secure anchorage of the Kåta.
Some events require authorization from authorities, including the Health & Safety Executive and local Fire Service. Where necessary the client takes full responsibility for such authorization.
Replacement of our tents and equipment is very costly. We strongly advise that customers purchase insurance for any event, including third Party liability.
For full details of the clients responsibilities during a period of hire, please refer to our Terms and Conditions of Hire.
